Summitville

This town was named for its location being on a summit (the top or extreme point of something, usually a mountain or hill).
The first permanent settlers arrived in the area in 1830 coming from the East Coast. This town saw many visitors because of people traveling on the “Fort Wayne Trace”. This was called a state road but was actually more of a path, which was made by deer or buffalo, through the woods and over the high ground. So many people came through Summitville that one man, Samuel Fennimore, built a hotel and tavern onto his cabin in 1839 to accommodate the travelers.
