In 2015, for instance, Connecticut reported that narcotics were responsible for over 500 deaths in the state. These drugs comprised over 75 percent of all drug overdose deaths here. From 2012 to 2015 also, the total number of drug overdose deaths in the state more than doubled.

However, opioids and heroin are not the only substance related problem in Connecticut. According to a recent national survey, the state was ranked first in terms of alcohol use by the young.

This is not surprising considering that over 20 percent of all people between the ages of 12 and 17 years reported that they had used or abused alcohol. This is according to a survey by SAMHSA – Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. The same report showed that Connecticut was the top 4 American state in terms of alcohol use by adults.
